Looking ahead into 2014, I anticipate God doing a major work in our corporate life together. Significant decisions are ahead of us that require soul-searching prayer. We face a spiritual battle as the evil one desires to divide while the Holy Spirit calls us to unity. I am confident that we will stand firm in this battle and that God will be honored.
It is my heart’s desire and prayer that 2014 will be a year of advanced spiritual growth for each of us. My desire is that we each will take the “next step” in our spiritual growth and development as disciples of Jesus. The “next step” will be different for each of us and will require that we submit to the Lord allowing the Holy Spirit to reveal the step that will result in the growth the Lord desires.
The “next step” may in fact be several steps taken in succession throughout the year. The Apostle Paul describes this process when he writes: “Now the Lord is Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. We all, with unveiled faces, are looking as in a mirror at the glory of the Lord and are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, this is from the Lord who is the Spirit” (2 Corinthians 3:17-18, HCSB). We, keeping our attention on Jesus, can anticipate his transforming work to continue in us, so that at the end of the year we are more like Jesus. To Jesus be all the honor, glory, and praise!
It is with great joy that I anticipate God’s major work in and among us this year as we take the “next step” together. I am really glad God is giving me the opportunity to be your pastor.
