I read the Gospel of Matthew this morning on my journey through the Bible in 90 days.  The phrase “little faith,” from the lips of Jesus, caught my attention as Matthew describes the disciples.  First used in the Sermon on the Mount (6:30) Jesus encourages followers to replace worry with faith, he has great blessings for us if we yield to him and live seeking “first the kingdom of God and His righteousness” (6:33).  Here it is as if Jesus puts his arm around them and coaxes them to higher levels of trust.  In other places (8:26; 14:31; 16:8; 17:20) the word was used of the disciples pointing to their failure to believe that God would provide what was needed.  In either case the spirit of this word calls us to walk in greater faith.  It seems God is always putting things in my life that call me to pray for more faith and act as if the prayer was answered immediately.
