On December 12, 2012 I wrote: “My desire for each of us in 2013 is that we might experience the fullness of God’s provision for us in Christ. Peter wrote: “His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires” (2 Peter 1:3–4, NIV2011).
Peter goes on to tell us how to appropriate the fullness of God’s provision for us in Christ: “Make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love” (2 Peter 1:5–7, NIV2011).
Peter’s admonition also includes a reminder of the benefit of appropriating the fullness of God’s provision in one’s life: “For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 1:8, NIV2011).
I would love to hear your stories of how you experienced the fullness of God’s provision for us in Christ throughout 2013. Write your reflection and pass me a note on Sunday or send it to me in an email (firstname.lastname@example.org).
I am really glad I am your Pastor and that I get to be in on what God is doing in and through his church in Clinton, Missouri. I love Jesus and his church (that means you)!
