I am very grateful for the close encounters with God I have experienced these past few days. The choir and orchestra were the tools God used to come near to my heart Thursday, Friday, and Sunday. My personal study of the resurrection of Jesus coupled with the powerful music of Tenebrae made this for me truly a “holy week.” Thank you choir, orchestra, and Kevin for creating a context in which God comes near and speaks powerfully to us.
Studying the Kings and Prophets in preparation for the India mission trip has reminded me of God’s intimate involvement in our lives. God often comes near in the words of the prophet calling us to repentance. We at times experience God’s nearness in the punishment we deserve because of our rebellion. God continually makes himself available to us through his Word, for which I am grateful.
In the touch of members during the commissioning, conversations in the hallways, two public professions of faith, and reconnecting with friends Sunday, I experienced God coming near. God comes near through the people of his church. We really do need each other.
When God comes near I am reminded that life in the church is not about me and it’s not about you but it’s all about him. “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, to it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him” (Colossians 3:17, NIV).
