Being good stewards demands that we make wise investments of our time and resources. How we use the next twenty-five days is crucial to the future ministry of our church. Therefore I am issuing a call to prayer. Let us earnestly seek God in the days leading up to the vote on building the new facility. This is a time for us to lay ourselves before the Lord, allowing him to check our motives, attitude, and spirit. I am not asking us to pray about a building, but about our life together as the Body of Christ.
These are days of spiritual warfare as the evil one will seek to deceive, divide, and derail the unity of the body. Satan has no interest in the building because he knows that it is just a building. Satan’s interest is in damaging the witness of the church, which is not determined by the outcome of a vote but how we relate to each other. Rumors regarding the new building already have emotions running high. Satan loves rumors, they serve his purpose well. James offers us wise counsel for the battle: “Submit to God. But resist the Devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7).
The Building Committee will give their report at 6:30 PM on February 9, 2014 and make their recommendation. Following the report the floor will be open for questions and discussion. Currently a summary report is being prepared for mailing and should be delivered during the week prior to the Building Committee presentation. A special business meeting for the purpose of casting the ballot regarding the Building Committee recommendation will be held at 8:30 & 11 AM worship on Sunday, February 16, 2014.
Let’s invest a few days now praying for our long-term ministry together. I am really glad I am your pastor during these faith-stretching days.
