Everything we do rests on a foundation of prayer. If we have not prayed, then we have not prepared to see God work. We have only planned an event. When we have fully submitted ourselves and our plans to God, then we can anticipate that the Holy Spirit will do immeasurably more than we can imagine (see Ephesians 3:20).
I believe that quality events require detail planning that rests on a foundation of prayer. Both praying and planning are required. When we pray, we yield ourselves and our plans to God. When we plan, we use the spiritual gifts God has given us and the spiritual insights that come through prayer to partner with God in what he is doing among us.
Four upcoming events are in varying stages of the prayer/planning process. Plans have been made, people recruited (more are needed), for the Great Garment Giveaway, September 21. Keep praying through the event!
Throughout the Spring and Summer I have presented to you My Hope with Billy Graham through messages and videos. I have asked you to pray about your own involvement and for people who need to know Jesus. Now it is time to make your commitment. Will you be a “Matthew” and host some friends who need to know Jesus in your home during the first week of November? Will you attend the “Matthew” training September 15, 22, and 29?
Trunk or Treat, October 31 is our alternative to Halloween, through which we are seeking to be in the world but not of the world. To date no other event attracts as many people as Trunk or Treat, therefore a foundation of prayer is essential to the early planning stage of this event.
A showing of the movie Home Run is planned for Sunday evening November 3. All the families who attend Trunk or Treat on Thursday will be invited to come back on Sunday to view this powerful reminder that with God, it’s never too late, freedom from past hurts is possible. The movie’s effectiveness rests upon the foundation of prayer we lay for it now.
I am really glad I am pastor of a praying people.
